Diodes Incorporated introduced the AL8807B dimmable buck LED driver to reduce the number of components in 12V and 24V LED lighting systems and MR16 LEDs, as well as printed circuit board size. The AL8807B is a hysteretic control driver for integrated power transistors that operates at up to 1MHz. The device sets the output current only through an external sense resistor.
This driver applies a fast digital pulse width modulated signal to the control input for dimming; when low voltage is applied to the same input, the output power is turned off. The driver provides over temperature, LED open and short circuit protection to ensure the reliability of the luminaire.
The AL8807B is packaged in a small footprint and low thermal resistance MSOP-8EP package for higher power density to provide maximum allowable LED current over a wider operating temperature range. This driver delivers up to 1.3A of LED drive current and operates up to 96% efficiency from -40oC to +125oC.
The driver's voltage source is between 6V and 36V, providing constant current for high-brightness LED strings. The device's average LED current accuracy is better than 5%, helping to improve channel-to-channel current matching and meeting the requirements of most medium voltage LED lighting products.
